The weather in Niagara Falls can sometimes be unpredictable, especially when it is transitioning from fall to winter or winter to spring. We suggest you plan accordingly. Check the Niagara Falls weather forecast before you leave your house. You will be spending quite a bit of time outdoors so you will definitely want to be prepared.
Why We ♥Niagara Falls: No matter what the season Niagara Falls has something fun to do. Each season offers something unique. We suggest visiting at least once during every season!
Niagara Falls in Spring
In 2013 we did not start to see a consistent warmer temperature until the last week of April. This is the season that can confuse everyone. Some days you need your winter coat others a light sweater will do. Once the warmer weather days outnumber the cold ones, Niagara Falls comes out of hibernation and everything seems bright and shiny and new again. The trees start to bud and flowers bloom. Spring in Niagara Falls really is pretty.
Why We ♥ Spring: The Maid of the Mist opens mid- April depending on the weather. This is a must do attraction! The boat ride offers a different perspective on the mighty Falls, one that we think beats the just standing there looking down one. If you want to really experience the power of the Falls take the boat ride. Sure it seems a little scary but we know you can do it!
Niagara Falls Summer
In the last few years we have seen a really hot, sticky summer. Make sure you pack your sunscreen, hats and re-useable bottles to fill up with water. If you will be sightseeing, make sure you visit an outside attractions and then go to an inside attraction. This way you can cool down in the air conditioning before heading back outside. The warm summer weather usually lasts until October.
Why We ♥Summer: Clifton Hill is a blast during the summer months. Make sure you buy the biggest cone of chocolate soft serve you possible can and then head to Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours. Be prepared to get drenched!
Niagara Falls During Fall
We haven’t seen much of an Autumn (Fall) season. The weather usually goes from hot to freezing in a matter of days. This is the season that can be very unpredictable. The warmer summer weather can last well into October or the cooler winter weather will take over. The one thing you can count on is the gorgeous colours of the leaves. Known as the Fall colours, Niagara Falls is transformed into a red, brown, green, yellow and orange paradise.
Why We ♥ Fall: Wine Season, wait did we say WINE SEASON!! The Niagara Region is all about wine during the autumn months. We suggest you book a winery tour while staying in Niagara Falls.
Winter in Niagara Falls
Around late October, the weather will suddenly change to winter. You will be wearing a t-shirt one day and pulling out the good ole winter coat the next. The winter season has been pretty mild the last few years. We do have a few weeks of heavy snow but the temperatures are not unbearably cold. The mist of the Falls does create some icy conditions during the colder months. While we suggest you visit during the winter we also suggest booking a Fallsview Guest Room. Let's create a mental picture for you. It is freezing out side. The wind is blowing and the snowflakes are gently falling to the ground. You are sitting on a comfy chair in your warm hotel room (which over looks the Falls) with the fireplace on. Wearing your warm knitted sweater, cup of hot chocolate in hand you lazily gaze out at the amazing view of the Falls.
Why We ♥ Winter: besides the fact that Christmas is during winter we also recommend checking out the Winter Festival of Lights. Another cool attraction (literally) is the TD Rink at the Brink outdoor skating. No need to remember to pack your skates, you can rent them.
